7 Rivers Trail

Average Rating:    (3.33 of 5)

Locals are not familiar with the place and they dont know there is a way to Montalban from here. The trail crosses seven rivers (I count them five ?) before emerging from the concrete plant outside Wawa in Montalban

Trail Directions
From San Mateo, turn left on the next major road after the road to Batasan Complex (towards the new San Mateo Market). At the end of the road after the big bridge, turn right. Its a continious uphill on cemented road which truns into a rough road. The first major fork near a store separates the two popular trails- 7 river tails to the right and Este Del Sol to the left.

Summary:
Nice, scenic, short & sweet. 7 rivers is actually just an alternative route towards Puray or Este del Sol. It's well shaded, closed to traffic and easy. You have to either bike through or portage over a small river, depending on the season. when it's dry the water is less then hub deep (and it's less one crossing because on of the creeks dries up). during the rainy season it can be hip high and fairly strong but still passable.

Recommended Route:
You enter this trail from the Philrock plant (turn left to cross the bridge from the road leading to Wawa Dam). After the crushing plant take the trail left and follow it. it passes through a couple of barangays along a dirt/gravel road.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
At the end of this trail you can turn right and go towards Mascap and on to Puray Falls. Going left leads towards Este del Sol, Licao Licao, Macabud or back towards Montalban.

Summary:
The trail in "Este" is highly technical singletrack with ravines on the side and the trail is covered with thick vegetaton. It is highly recommeded that you enter with a veteran biker of the area since the trail is hard to find and sometimes is overgrown with cogon grass. There are also some hiden barb wires along the trail that can damage your tires. There is a steep technical downhill that is very hard to cleanly clear because of the dusty and slippery conditions (50% of us fell trying it). This finishes on a small stream before the end of the trail. From here you can easily go 5km by road to the trailhead to "7 rivers" which is a fairly straight-forward trail with 5 river/streams. There are steep and long trail inclines (around 40 degrees) that are great exercise for your lungs and willpower. Great ride for about 50km and 7 hours.

Recommended Route:
The initial review is correct. Liza is talking of another trail that has a similar name that is the boso-boso area.

Summary:
Previously muddy trail but now some portions are already paved. Its a 15km loop trail with a variety of muddy(during rainy season), single track, fire road, downhill. After the downhill portion, turn right to cross the 7 rivers leading to the highway(back to start) and turn right towards Boso-boso highway. Left turn and you'll go to Tanay Sampaloc.

Recommended Route:
7 rivers can be found in Boso-boso area after Padilla Rizal and not in San Mateo. Coming from Masinag all the way up to Cogeo just travel straight until you reach lower Boso-boso. After the zigzag DH concrete road, turn left after the bridge.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
There's no other mtb trail in the area. Ask the locals for the right direction towards the rivers since there are other paths going to private farms.
