, from Chch NZ Summary: Definately one of the best rides in Canterbury. Whaddya mean dont ride it after its been raining? Its always been raining up there, and probably half of the times ive ridden it its BEEN raining. Those roots sure are slippery... Exquisite singletrack through gorgeous nz native beech forest. We tried to do it the other weekend but the windscreen of the car got take out by a stone on the way out there... bummer. Beginners could almost do it. Intermediates definately, and its a breeze for experts. there are usually quite a few trees over trail, which require you to get off and climb over, but granted, there were a lot less last time i did it. Tend to just ride in and back out, but if youre really game, you can do the full loop, through to the first hut, then beautiful rollercoaster ride down to the townsend huts, then long slog down to lees valley, and back out the (long slog) Ashley gorge road. Took us five hours from Wharfdale Trailhead to the Oxford pub (others we rode with turned back to the car and turned up at the pub an hour later). Yay! Recommended Route: as above

, from Lowell, MA (previously Chch, NZ) Summary: This is without a doubt my favorite trail in the Canterbury area. Awesome single track, heaps of roots, waterbars and washouts. One of those trails that you're NEVER going to ride without dabbing your foot a few times. Fantastic bush-land (wonderful native forest), awesome views, soke solid climbs and some screaming downhills. I haven't ridden here for a few years now but intend to head back there at the end of this year - if you're ever in the area, hit this trail - it is trully epic! Hey Nelson from New Zealand - what's with "some technical areas BUT would rate as some of the best single track in Canterbury". Don't you mean that some technical areas MAKE this the best track in canterbury?
