Talisay Horse Trail
1 reviews
 3 of 5

Rolling and technical singletrack with some rock gardens. Riders get a great view of the Taal Volcano and lake. Some sections of the trail are right on top of a ridge so you have a spectacular view all around. Since this trail is used mostly by locals on horseback, watch out for ruts created by horse hooves and the occasional horse shit which tends to blend in with the mud on the trail. The trail ends in a small creek (it is rideable) and a small group of houses right by the Taal lake. It's short but sweet!

Trail Directions
From Manila, take the South Superhighway and exit at Sta. Rosa. Proceed towards Tagaytay (turn right after the tollgate). Upon reaching the main highway in Tagaytay, turn left towards Palace in the Sky. Follow the road for some 200 to 300 meters or so to a small concrete road on the right that leads to the Taal Yacht Club. Go down another 200 meters until you reach an intersection. Take the road on the right into a private subdivision. There's a small clearing at the end. You'll find the trailhead on the left side of the road, hidden by tall grass.

Summary:
Not for the faint at heart. Beginners may find themselves walking most of the way on their first time (like we did). Very slippery descents, a mixture of mud and marble-like gobs of earth. It's butt-over-the-rear-tire most of the time. Watch out for slick rocks on the narrow descents, they're covered with mud and are wet most of the time so just roll over them. Some off-the-bike portions (narrow rocky descents or near-vertical switchbacks). Very technical but a great ride for experienced riders. The view, however, is spectacular!

Recommended Route:
Took the directions as submitted in mtbr.com. Got lost finding the trailhead, though.
