The Waterblower

Average Rating:    (4 of 5)

The start of the track is quite steep and rough and unridable in some places, with loose gravel/rocks making life hard, after about 5 mins though, it flattens slightly and becomes ridable. A rough track in places, it is thin and demanding in parts. The track gets better as you progress and becomes quite fun, with some tight corners and burns. Nearing the end, the track steepens again and requires a fair biit of breaking to slow up on the hill side track. Right at the end, you may see a road belw you, this is a dead end street so theres not to much risk of traffic, allowing an easy rollout from the steep track. And ther you go, after about 10-20mins your out, at bayview heights. Now all you have to do is fnd your way back to the city.

Trail Directions
Head out from the city towards the suburb of Brinsmead. About 2klm before you get there, turn off up the lake morris road towards the copperlode dam. If you are unfamiliar with the area, just ask a local. Once heading up the road ride about 10klm, tiring, but its worth it. The actual track is hard to locate with no signage. A small hill/mound on the left hand side of the road at about 10klm up the winding road,(high up the mountain) signposts the start, with a track leading up over it and then down wards forming the beginning. The actual track is not that difficult to see, just keep your eyes peeled.

Summary:
I read the review of this track and had to set the record straight,
A. it is called Waddleblah, named after the peak it goes to.
B. It is the most awesome DH track in Cairns.
This track is definately not for the faint hearted and I would not ride down it on anything that could be peddaled up the road to acess it and wouldnt recomend doing it on your own.
The first couple of hundred meters is dubbed rocky horror it is stupid steep and made up of loose rocks and there is no forgiveness for getting it wrong (featured on mudcows 3). So if you have any doubt walk it. After that the gradient flattens out and the track becomes really fun fast and furious. Lots of roots, couple of drops and jumps, the track is pretty rough but the faster you go the smoother it gets. I spent a lot of time after wet season 2012 fixing a lot of the ruts and some other lads have done some good work restoring it to its former glory.
Needs to be done a few times just to get the flow of the track.

Recommended Route:
Shuttle runs up Lake Morris Rd (Copperload Dam Rd) in a car/ute.
Look for a small mound on your left hand side aprox 10m high just after the road goes into a narrow 1 lane section.
The track comes out on Vine cl in Bayview Hieghts, head down the road and turn left onto Marti st. The common meeting point is the corner shop on Toogood Rd, you will beat the car down by 20 mins.

Kuranda, Robsons, Smithfield, Palmers

Summary:
Well fer starters its actually Waddleblah not WaterBlower! It used to be one of the better bits of downhill singletrack in cairns, but thanks to the heavy rain much of it is an unridable ruttfest. However, with a long travel Dual Suspension bike and decent brakes there is still alot of fun to be had on this track. I would recommend taking it slow on your first trip down, there are some perfectly innocent looking jumps, which one might take at speed and then realise that about two metres after the takeoff the track does a right-angle turn. And as such you fly over the corner and into the not-so-soft wraith of the trees. However there are probably better ways to spend your riding time in cairns.

Recommended Route:
As suggested by the reviewer. Though try and scab a lift up in a car with someone who owes you a favour, as its quite a ride up :)

Robsons, Worlds, Marino's Hill
