St Helena Trail

Average Rating:    (4.33 of 5)

No. of Reviews: 3

Overgrown fire trail. Almost single track. Last few k's are very technical single track. You will also need to do a river crossing. Then a 20 hike up with your bike. This is bad part of this ride.

Summary:
Awesome trail! Can't believe everyone else is still raving about the Oakes.
Proliferant vegetation adds to the challenge. Great trail because it just keeps going!
Difficult really depends on how fast you travel. Take it flat out and it's a screamer. It's a nice drawn-out (flat?) downhill so technical grading increases with peddling!

Recommended Route:
Detour to Lost World lookout makes for a good lunch break.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Beats everything else in the mountains for decent cross country.
Next closest xc trail: Yarramundi @ Yellowmundi

Most of the singletrack gone now. NP and RFS graded the trail all the way to St Helenas crater. Still a couple of k's of singletrack left at the end though.
Makes a nice out and back extension to the Oaks ride though.

Summary:
Technical in places and a fair bit of walking/bike carrying required. Great trail and pretty technical in places. Would rate a 5 but for the branches hanging over trail from fire/dead trees. They ruin several fast sections and mean you spend alot of time ducking and weaving.

Recommended Route:
Have ridden Up st helena's and down Oaks to form loop to glenbrook station but probably better in the other direction.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Oaks, Ingar, Andersons all good but not technical enough. Royal national park and oxford falls

Summary:
Starts bumpy as. Rode it with a few rigids, they turned back. Brakes cop a real workout. It's fast and pretty much downhill all the way to creek crossing, which you will have to walk down side of cliff to get to. Then 20min bike carry up other side until you rejoin s/track and eventually back to railway line crossing and lift bikes over fence back to station.
Trail isn't that used and is mainly singletrack, wears shades as lots of overhanging branches. There are a few turnoffs - which i think lead to lookouts otherwise it is pretty self navigable.

Recommended Route:
Turn left 6km's into Oaks - can't miss it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Oaks - for a speed run, Andersons, and trails off Mt Victoria Rd down into Hartley Vale
