A delightful piece of tarred road on top of a sparse hill that has been ravaged by cattle for decades - so much for the rock garden as its now been bulldozed, graded and sealed.
They tell me the meandering single track around the base of red hill was originally made by cows, presumably they were also keen mtb enthusiasts. Some very fun and easily accessible trails. If this hill was in most parts of Australia, or 3km from the CBD of any other Australian city people would wax lyrical about it, but given canberra's mtb riches, it doesn't get half the respect it deserves.
Super fun for a 1 hour blat with a bonus jump park and some sly little downhills thrown in for good measure.
Start at the bottom near the bundah, climb up to col du Mugga, go right for a bit jump the gate and link up the fire-trail and single track to your hearts content. Make sure you climb to the trig station at some point and admire the view before the fang down the hill all the way back to the bundah.
Other recommended trails in the same area:
Ainslie/majura, stromlo, kowen, sparrow hill, black mtn, isaacs, Namadgi
