short but resonably challenging xc ride along the ridge of red hill. expect small rock gardens and some long and steep uphills. trail is fire then single track and a few steep rocky downhill sections. recommend a FS XC bike with good tires.

Trail Directions
go to the saddle of red hill (accessable from the the carpark and fire trail that goes up to the saddle). once at the saddle on your left there will be a steep uphill section take it. continue along this veering right whenever possible but stay on the ridge do not go down the single trails. there will be a few ups and downs and you need to veer along the single trail that proceeds up hill into the small rock garden. continue along this and eventually you will reach a downhill section that veers to the left and down to a gate. jump the gate and turn left down a long downhill section to rip around that will take you back to the carpark. great fun

A delightful piece of tarred road on top of a sparse hill that has been ravaged by cattle for decades - so much for the rock garden as its now been bulldozed, graded and sealed.

They tell me the meandering single track around the base of red hill was originally made by cows, presumably they were also keen mtb enthusiasts. Some very fun and easily accessible trails. If this hill was in most parts of Australia, or 3km from the CBD of any other Australian city people would wax lyrical about it, but given canberra's mtb riches, it doesn't get half the respect it deserves.

Super fun for a 1 hour blat with a bonus jump park and some sly little downhills thrown in for good measure.

Recommended Route:
Start at the bottom near the bundah, climb up to col du Mugga, go right for a bit jump the gate and link up the fire-trail and single track to your hearts content. Make sure you climb to the trig station at some point and admire the view before the fang down the hill all the way back to the bundah.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Ainslie/majura, stromlo, kowen, sparrow hill, black mtn, isaacs, Namadgi
