This XC trail was constructed in early 03 for the MONT 24hr event (http://longrides.net/events/mont24hr.shtml). It's a 17km loop starting at a picnic area with facilities, 40% singletrack with the biggest climb being 120m in elevation over 2km. The fastest lap times during the Mont were 42 minutes in daylight and 44 minutes at night - see if you can beat Paul Rowney!

Summary:
Great flowing course, with lots of single track that is great for a nice ride. Great as you don't have to think about which track to take next because there is only one and it will take you back to the start soon enough. Also you can easily cut laps down in size if you are tired and need to head back.

Recommended Route:
Start at the pinic ground and follow the track clockwise...

Summary:
My first impression of the bumps on this trail is 'they suck! too fatiguing!'. Over six laps I grew to love the six inches of travel i had.

The singletrack is cut quite well to enable riders to maintain momentum, despite being quite rough. There's a couple of log rollovers with chicken runs (that are totally unnecessary for anyone but total uncos). Corners are cut really well, no off-camber turning here it's all built up for maximum speed.

In the coming years I hope the two main downhill blasts down fire trail get replaced with singletrack downhills through the forest, currently the downhill runs on firetrail are dead straight and a waste of the elevation you gain!

Recommended Route:
Brilliant maps available from longrides.net

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Majura, Stromlo, link up the ridges of the ACT, Cotter to Tidbinbilla over 3 days, Mt Clear loops in two days etc.
