Summary:
An update (Jan 2006) on the trails at the ever growing ESKDALE MTB PARK, just 10 minutes drive north of Napier, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.
Now with over 50 named trails averaging over 1km in length, from easy to difficult, from flat to steep, from fast & flowing to tight & technical - we have it all here, within the 600ha privately owned productive working pine forest.
For more info & pictures go to the local clubs website - www.hawkesbaymtb.co.nz

Recommended Route:
For beginners, a one hour ride would include Pace, ByPass, Lower Magog, Boulder & Merv's & maybe Barley, plus a little of gravel forestry road to link up with the main carpark. The Hawkes Bay MTB Club Inc is NZ's largest cycling club with over 670 active members from young pre-schoolers on bikes with trainer wheels, thru to Nana & Grandad on the bikes they rode when they where teenagers, thru to the top international XC & DH pro-riders, plus everyone in between - there's a track that suits you.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
For a ride of over 2 hours for intermediate level riders try: Lower Apex, Twoman, down the Esk DH, up ByPass, down Upper Magog, thru Lower Magog & down The Drop, around Boulder, along Merv's, up Eskdrive & Switchback, down Pond, up Wahoo, down Zip, around Cattleflat & up Shooters, Crowley Road around to #244, down this & back up Target, up the forestry road & back along Ridgeline, down Trig & Upper Apex back to the map board where you started from just up the road from the carpark.
If you have any energy & time left, go & try out some of the other tracks that havn't been mentioned here. (Note, no-one has yet been able to ride all the tracks in a single day!).

For the Downhill orientated rider, check out the new national downhill track 'Hi-Roller', specifically built for the 2006 NZ National MTB Series round 5, which is UCI CatE2. We also have the 'King of Down' downhill track in our other forest further up the road which has also hosted rounds of the National MTB Series, some being UCI CatE2 rated.
