Nydia Track

Average Rating:    (4 of 5)

The Marlborough Sound's best kept secret is the Nydia Track, a 27km trek through stunning native bush, across spectacular saddles, through regenerating forest and farmland and alongside still, emerald waters. Enjoy the charming accommodation place - Driftwood - nestled at the head of Nydia Bay.

Summary:
A pretty challenging 27km of single track with two decent climbs and good downhill and flat sections. Lots of roots and rocks and muddy bits on the way.
It isn't an easy relaxing ride; it's an all day adventure in a stunning location that will test your skills and fitness.
Beautiful mountains, native forest and coast line.

Recommended Route:
Get a lift to Tennyson Inlet saddle off state highway 6 (just out of Rai Valley village) and ride either the road or Opouri bridel track down hill to Duncan Bay to Start of Nydia Track. The track can be ridden in one day or there is accomidation and camping on the way.

The trail ends on Kaiuma Bay road (dirt) where you can get a pick up by pre arranged water taxi or by road, or bike the 20 odd km out to Havelock, or if you are mad enough, the 60 odd km to Tennyson inlet saddle.

Don't bother trying to ride this trail when wet!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Archers track nearby is a good fun couple of hours return in an amazing location.

Whakamarina track and Cullensville track are old gold trails in the same region.

And of course the Queen Charlotte track is the best long trail ride in NZ!
